Light Fabrication Design Engineer

About the role

Quest Global is seeking a Light Fabrication Design Engineer to lead concept development of lightweight structural systems for construction and mining equipment. The role involves translating functional requirements into robust designs, creating 3D models, and performing structural analysis to deliver optimized, cost‑effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs for light structural components and assemblies used in construction and mining equipment.
• Convert product requirements into feasible engineering concepts, layouts, and design proposals.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models and assemblies using Creo Parametric.
• Perform preliminary FEA with Creo Simulation to validate stiffness, fatigue, and load cases.
• Evaluate and optimise designs for cost, weight, manufacturability, and durability.
• Prepare concept presentations, design reports, and technical documentation for internal and customer reviews.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, testing, and project‑management teams.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments, and value‑engineering activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in concept and structural design, preferably in construction, mining, or heavy‑machinery sectors.
• Strong background in light fabrication or sheet‑metal design.
• Proven ability to produce detailed 2D drawings and manage BOMs.

Required skills

• Creo Parametric for 3D modelling and assemblies.
• Creo Simulation (FEA) for structural analysis.
• Sheet‑metal design, GD&T, and tolerance stack‑up.
• Knowledge of fabrication processes, welding symbols, and material selection.
• Experience with DFM/DFA principles.
• Familiarity with PLM/PDM tools such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
