Legal Counsel – Labor and Employment

About the role

Bechtel is seeking an experienced employment lawyer to join its Global Labor and Employment Law team in Gurugram, India. The role provides legal support to business units, HR, finance and procurement, ensuring compliance with Indian labor and employment regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted legal advisor to HR, Employee Relations and business teams on end‑to‑end employment and labor law matters.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Indian labor and employment laws across Bechtel offices and projects.
• Draft, review and update employment terms, HR policies and workforce documentation.
• Advise on employee consultations, labor authority filings, investigations, disciplinary actions and terminations.
• Manage employment‑related disputes, including demand letters, litigation, arbitration and coordination with external counsel.
• Prepare and negotiate employment, consulting, secondment and agency agreements for India operations.
• Monitor regulatory and labor code developments and advise senior stakeholders on legal risks and mitigation.

Required profile

• Based in Gurugram, India.
• Reports to the Senior Counsel, Global Employment & Labor.
• Works with minimal supervision while maintaining regular communication with India management and global teams.
