Legal Counsel – Intellectual Property

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Legal Counsel with deep expertise in managing domestic and international intellectual property portfolios. The role focuses on trademarks, brand protection, stakeholder management, and providing commercial‑focused legal advice to support brand growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage prosecution, renewal, opposition and assignment matters for Nykaa’s India and global trademark portfolio.
• Coordinate with external counsel across jurisdictions to ensure timely, cost‑effective IP management.
• Advise business teams on trademark clearance, registrability and brand‑protection strategies for new products, sub‑brands and campaigns.
• Draft, review and negotiate IP licences, coexistence, assignment and settlement agreements.
• Support enforcement actions such as cease‑and‑desist notices, domain disputes and anti‑counterfeiting initiatives.
• Maintain IP docketing, budget tracking and legal document repositories.

Required profile

• LL.B. or LL.M. from a recognized university.
• 5–7 years post‑qualification experience, preferably split between a leading law firm and an in‑house legal team.
• Demonstrated experience in trademark prosecution and international portfolio management.
• Prior exposure to FMCG, beauty, fashion, retail or e‑commerce sectors is strongly preferred.
