Lead Software Engineer

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Lead Software Engineer in Pune to develop authentication and security solutions for the Mastercard Identity Solution program. The role combines hands‑on technical leadership with responsibility for designing, building, and scaling high‑quality software that meets Mastercard engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance software through programming, unit testing, implementation, documentation and delivery.
• Research alternative technical solutions to meet evolving business needs.
• Ensure adherence to Mastercard standards, processes and best practices throughout the software lifecycle.
• Create testing documentation and follow quality assurance and control processes.
• Write comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests with high code coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, scrum masters, QA and cross‑functional teams in an Agile environment.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the Java/Backend Engineering Guild.
• Drive technical decisions while aligning with Mastercard reference architectures.
• Participate in on‑call rotations, production support, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven experience leading Java backend projects in a fast‑paced, Agile environment.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and ability to translate designs into production‑ready code.
• Excellent communication and mentorship abilities.
