Lead Data Engineer

About the role

The Lead Data Engineer will work within ANZ's Institutional Data Technology Area, supporting the Institutional Division. You will design, build, test, deploy and maintain a highly scalable, resilient and cost‑effective data management platform, applying DataOps principles and modern data‑mesh architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to capture data platform requirements and translate them into solution designs.
• Work closely with data architects, cloud engineers and product owners to develop and document solution options.
• Lead a team of data engineers, ensuring best practices in design, development, testing and deployment.
• Maintain key design artefacts such as solution overviews and architecture diagrams.
• Monitor emerging technologies and champion those that add value to the platform.
• Support the divisional data mesh and all analytics use cases for the Institutional business.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data‑engineering teams in a complex, fast‑moving environment.
• Strong understanding of modern data architecture paradigms, especially Data Mesh.
• Software‑engineering mindset with a focus on DataOps practices.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional stakeholders and senior technical leaders.
