Lead Arborist

About the role

The Lead Arborist will oversee advanced tree care operations, ensuring safety and quality while working at height in diverse canopy environments. This senior‑level position combines hands‑on climbing, rigging, and tree removal with client communication and team leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Perform modern arboricultural practices, including pruning to ISA standards and hazard tree removal.
• Climb and work safely in tree canopies of any size using SRS, MRS, and traditional methods.
• Operate aerial lifts, brush chippers, stumpers, and chainsaws with precision.
• Execute technical rigging for large limb and tree removal, including static and dynamic cabling and bracing systems.
• Conduct aerial rescues and install safety systems as needed.
• Demonstrate and enforce safe work practices and proper PPE usage.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and communicate clearly with clients.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of professional arboriculture experience.
• Post‑secondary education related to arboriculture.
• Strong client communication and customer‑service skills.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Working at Heights, WHMIS and First Aid certifications.

Required skills

• SRS and MRS rope systems.
• Spur‑assisted hazard tree removal techniques.
• Aerial lift operation.
• Technical rigging and large‑tree removal.
• Static and dynamic cabling and bracing.
• Chainsaw, brush chipper and stumper operation.
• ISA Certified Arborist or Ontario Certified Arborist (preferred).
• 0‑8 tonne crane competency (asset).
• Utility Arborist 444A/444B certification (asset).
• IHSA Line Clearing Safety and Awareness (asset).
