Healthcare Support Worker – Band 3 (Outpatient)

About the role

This internal vacancy is for a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker within the NHS Borders Outpatient Department at Borders General Hospital. You will deliver safe, effective patient care in an outpatient setting, working closely with consultants and specialist nurses.

Key responsibilities

• Provide unsupervised, high‑quality clinical care to out‑patients.
• Assist consultants and specialist nurses with both clinical and non‑clinical tasks.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Follow infection‑control and health‑and‑safety protocols at all times.
• Support the multidisciplinary team in delivering seamless outpatient services.

Required profile

• Current NHS Scotland employee (internal vacancy).
• Flexible, resourceful and able to work independently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to NHS values: compassion, kindness, integrity, teamwork and excellence.
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
