General Ophthalmologist – Full-time Clinical Role

About the role

This full-time, on-site position is based at Trinity Super Speciality Eye Hospital in Palakkad, Kerala. The General Ophthalmologist will conduct comprehensive eye examinations, diagnose and manage common ophthalmic conditions, and deliver medical and minor surgical treatments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye examinations and use diagnostic equipment such as slit lamp, tonometry, fundoscopy, and OCT where available.
• Diagnose, prescribe medication, and counsel patients and families on treatment plans.
• Coordinate care with optometrists, nurses, and other clinical staff.
• Conduct pre- and post-operative assessments and maintain accurate medical records.
• Adhere to clinical protocols, safety standards, and participate in quality improvement and continuing education activities.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS) with postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology (MS, DO, DNB or equivalent) and valid medical registration.
• Experience in outpatient care, minor ophthalmic procedures, and pre- and post-operative patient management; exposure to cataract surgery is an advantage.
• Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail in documentation, and commitment to evidence-based practice and patient safety.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, high-volume environment.
• Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and hospital-led quality initiatives.

Required skills

• Proficiency with slit lamp, tonometry, fundoscopy, and OCT (where available).
• Ability to perform minor ophthalmic procedures and manage pre- and post-operative care.
