Front Drive Shaft CAD Engineer

About the role

The Front Drive Shaft CAD Engineer will be responsible for designing and detailing front drive‑shaft interface components for passenger cars. The role involves creating 3D models and 2D drawings, managing packaging and interfaces, and releasing parts through PLM systems while collaborating with system leads, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in CATIA, applying GD&T, drawing standards, and BOM management.
• Design packaging and interface solutions, ensuring clearances, motion envelopes, serviceability, and assembly feasibility.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles, select appropriate materials and processes (sheet metal, cast/forged, plastics, weldments).
• Support tolerance stack‑up analysis, provide DFMEA inputs, and ensure design robustness.
• Release parts in PLM, manage ECR/ECO, and control configuration.
• Coordinate supplier CAD data exchange, conduct drawing reviews, and close prototype/build issues.
• Integrate supplier shaft/CV joints with suspension, steering, and thermal shields, and design OEM‑owned brackets and shields where required.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–10 years of hands‑on CAD design experience in automotive components or systems.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and component integration.

Required skills

• CATIA V5 and V6 (part design, assembly, drafting).
• GD&T and tolerance stack‑up methods.
• PLM tools such as Teamcenter or ENOVIA.
• DFM/DFA principles and DFMEA participation.
• Issue tracking and change management tools.
