Environmental Service Worker – Hospital Support

About the role

The Environmental Service Worker ensures a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, residents, visitors and staff within the hospital. Working under the Manager of Operations, the role combines housekeeping, linen management and basic security responsibilities to support uninterrupted health‑care delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning of floors, entrances, surfaces, walls, furniture and fixtures.
• Conduct safety inspections of building furniture and equipment to keep all areas hazard‑free.
• Manage security tasks such as locking/unlocking the building, monitoring staff‑only zones and assisting during emergencies.
• Oversee the laundry department: ensure linen is properly washed, folded and stocked to meet organisational needs.
• Provide short‑notice shift coverage when required.
• Follow all organisational policies, procedures and the mission of Deep River and District Health.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Housekeeping, Infection Prevention & Control, or Gentle Persuasive Approach certification preferred.
• Experience in an acute‑care hospital or long‑term‑care setting preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and coordinate tasks with team members.
• Strong organisational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
