Engineer - Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems

About the role

The Engineer – Plumbing and Fire Protection is responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the installation of plumbing and fire protection systems across a range of projects. You will work closely with architects, project managers, contractors and other engineering disciplines to ensure systems meet local codes, regulatory requirements and project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed designs, plans and specifications for plumbing and fire protection systems in line with local codes.
• Interpret architectural drawings and assess project requirements to size and scope the systems.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, contractors and other engineers to integrate systems into overall project plans.
• Conduct site visits to inspect installation progress and verify compliance with approved designs.
• Supervise installation activities, providing guidance to contractors and ensuring industry standards are met.
• Perform hydraulic calculations, including pipe sizing, pressure‑drop and flow‑rate analysis.
• Troubleshoot plumbing and fire protection issues during construction and after completion.
• Stay current with new technologies, codes, standards and emerging trends in plumbing and fire protection.
• Coordinate technical reviews, peer reviews and sign‑offs with the Local GCC Head of MEP and WSP HK team.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Familiarity with local building codes, fire safety regulations and relevant standards.
• Ability to conduct hydraulic calculations (pipe sizing, pressure drop, flow rates).
• Experience supervising installations and performing site inspections.
• Strong collaboration skills with architects, project managers, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Knowledge of WSP HK Building Regulations, CDM and QA processes.
• Capability to carry out technical, peer and design reviews and to sign off designs.
