Electrician I – Campus Facilities Maintenance

About the role

The Facilities and Business Operations team at the University of Central Florida is hiring an Electrician I to support the safe, functional, and efficient operation of campus facilities. The role involves routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems across a large educational environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform planned preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on electrical equipment.
• Install, maintain, and modify wiring, power appliances, lighting, motors, generators, and related components.
• Diagnose and resolve power failures, electrical malfunctions, and fire alarm system issues.
• Assist central shops, contractors, and other departments as needed.
• Participate in facilities improvement and capital projects.
• Complete work orders promptly, documenting labor hours, materials, and status updates.

Required profile

• Completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship program, or a high school diploma with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: minimum 3 years of experience maintaining electrical systems in a commercial or institutional setting.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Effective communication skills in conversational English.

Required skills

• Electrical troubleshooting and fault isolation.
• Preventive and corrective maintenance of low‑ and medium‑voltage systems.
• Wiring installation and repair, power appliance servicing.
• Motor, generator, transformer, and control system maintenance.
• Fire alarm system maintenance.
• Use of Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar platforms.
