Electrical Engineer – Smelting Operations

About the role

The Electrical Engineer will lead the design, implementation and supervision of electrical systems for anode furnace and casting wheel operations. The role bridges process licensors, EPCM teams and on‑site construction to ensure reliable power delivery and safe operation of secondary smelting equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with licensors and design teams to translate approved electrical single‑line diagrams, layouts and control philosophies into detailed installation packages.
• Validate electrical interfaces with mechanical, instrumentation and automation systems for furnace, casting wheel and auxiliary equipment.
• Support specification finalisation, vendor evaluation, technical bid reviews and Factory Acceptance Tests for transformers, LT/HT panels, MCCs, drives, motors and automation panels.
• Supervise on‑site installation of substations, panels, transformers, cable trays, terminations and earthing systems, ensuring compliance with drawings and method statements.
• Integrate power systems with drives, interlocks, safety and automation controls, resolving mechanical and signal‑routing issues.
• Execute pre‑commissioning activities such as IR testing, relay testing, loop checks and interlock verification, and coordinate phased energisation for dry‑out, heat‑up and first‑metal charging.
• Implement electrical safety practices including LOTO, PTW, arc‑flash protection, hazardous‑area compliance and earthing safety.

Required profile

• Proven experience in electrical design and installation for heavy‑industry or metallurgical plants.
• Strong understanding of power distribution, motor control, and automation integration.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and manage vendor relationships.
• Familiarity with safety standards, LOTO procedures and hazardous‑area regulations.
