Director of Engineering (Data Infrastructure)

About the role

Databricks is seeking a senior technical leader to build and own the data infrastructure organization in Bengaluru. You will define the vision for ultra‑reliable, petabyte‑scale systems that power billing, multi‑region ingestion, and deployment automation.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a multi‑year infrastructure roadmap that guarantees zero‑tolerance billing accuracy and disaster‑recovery reliability.
• Build and scale a high‑performance engineering team, hiring managers and senior engineers across India.
• Own 24/7/365 critical systems across 100+ regions, driving self‑healing, self‑tuning, and observability frameworks.
• Deliver platforms that automate regional expansion, enforce correctness, and provide comprehensive testing coverage.
• Treat internal engineering teams as product customers, establishing SLAs and measuring adoption.

Required profile

• 14+ years in distributed systems engineering with at least 6 years leading infrastructure organizations and 4 years managing managers.
• Proven track record building 99.999%+ reliable, petabyte‑scale data pipelines in high‑growth environments.
• Strong communication skills to translate technical decisions into business outcomes for executives and global partners.
• BS in Computer Science or Engineering; MS/PhD preferred.
