Design Engineer – Core Engine Components

About the role

Caterpillar is seeking a Design Engineer to lead the development and maintenance of core engine components for its reciprocating engine portfolio. You will work across multiple Indian sites, collaborating with product groups, strategic suppliers, and cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑performance, durable engine parts.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop core engine components (cylinder heads, blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, gears, housings, pistons, rings, liners, valve mechanisms).
• Interpret program requirements, boundary conditions, and dynamics to refine designs without compromising specifications.
• Lead technical evaluations, perform design calculations, and make informed design decisions.
• Apply product development processes such as FMEA, DVP&R, APQP, and PPAP throughout NTI, NPI, CPI, and cost‑reduction programs.
• Conduct basic performance analysis of subsystems using appropriate analysis tools.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, quality, and purchasing during prototype development.
• Collaborate with technical leads, subject‑matter experts, and chief engineers for test and validation activities, and communicate results to stakeholders.
