Data Scientist - Generative AI & LLM

About the role

The Global Quality Analytics and Innovation team leads the digital transformation of Amgen's Quality organization, building data-centric digital tools that use automation, AI and generative AI. It is looking for an experienced Data Scientist with a strong background in Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) and MLOps, and an understanding of quality in regulated environments (e.g. GxP). The role designs, develops and deploys scalable AI/ML solutions and works with software engineers, data engineers, business stakeholders and quality professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy generative AI and LLM-based applications using frameworks such as LangChain and LlamaIndex.
• Engineer reusable prompts for models such as OpenAI GPT-4 and Anthropic Claude.
• Develop and maintain evaluation metrics and frameworks for prompt engineering.
• Conduct data quality assessments, cleanse data and ingest unstructured documents into vector databases.
• Build retrieval algorithms to identify relevant data for LLMs and AI applications.
• Ensure AI/ML development complies with GxP and other regulatory standards.
• Partner with global and local teams on regulatory inspection readiness and future AI capabilities.
• Share insights with team members in an Agile (SAFe) environment.

Required profile

• Master's degree and 2-4 years of experience in Software Engineering, Data Science or ML Engineering; or Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years; or Diploma and 7-9 years.
• Preferred: experience developing and deploying LLM applications.
• Preferred: knowledge of GxP compliance and experience in regulated environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in global teams.

Required skills

• Preferred: Python and ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• Preferred: MLOps tools (MLflow, CI/CD, version control).
• Preferred: cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and tools such as Spark and Databricks.
• Preferred: RESTful APIs (FastAPI), BI and visualization tools (Tableau, Streamlit, Dash).
