Contract Design Engineer – Interior Components

About the role

Magna is seeking a Contract Design Engineer to design and develop interior automotive components. You will work with cross‑functional teams to deliver robust, production‑ready solutions that meet performance, cost, and manufacturing goals while ensuring structural integrity and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop interior modules such as instrument panels, floor consoles, door trim, and hard/soft trim components.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings using Catia V5.
• Define joinery, assembly sequences, and packaging requirements.
• Apply Design for Assembly, Servicing, and Manufacturing principles.
• Ensure designs meet GD&T standards and material specifications.
• Maintain data management and documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
• Deliver on schedule with zero rework.

Required profile

• BE in Mechanical/Production/Automobile engineering (3‑6 years experience) or DME (5‑7 years experience).
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, packaging, part‑to‑part interface, and material requirements.
• Ability to interpret gap, step, color, and texture specifications.

Required skills

• Catia V5 (3D modeling and 2D drawing creation).
• Design for Assembly, Design for Servicing, Design for Manufacturing.
• Joinery definition and assembly sequencing.
• GD&T (tolerances and reference point system).
• Data management and documentation.
