Commis II – Garde Manger

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Commis II – Garde Manger to join our kitchen team at the Sheraton hotel in Chennai. In this entry‑level position you will support the cold‑kitchen operations, ensuring that all ingredients are prepared, stored and presented to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, chop, peel, weigh and measure ingredients for cooking.
• Prepare cold dishes and assemble food according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers safely and efficiently.
• Monitor food quality, test doneness, and ensure correct temperatures of appliances and food.
• Set up and break down work stations, serve food in proper portions, and maintain a clean, disinfected kitchen environment.
• Follow all company safety, security and food‑safety policies, reporting any hazards or incidents.
• Maintain professional appearance and uphold confidentiality of proprietary information.

Required profile

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related kitchen or food‑preparation experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift and carry objects up to 25 lb without assistance.

Required skills

• Operation of ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves and fryers.
• Food preparation and portioning techniques.
• Knowledge of food safety and temperature control standards.
• Basic kitchen sanitation and equipment cleaning.
