Cloud Data Engineer (M/F/D)

About the role

BASF Digital Hub Hyderabad is looking for a Cloud Data Engineer to work on its Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) built on Azure PaaS components. The team builds and maintains the data foundation and big data platform, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable and secure solutions. The engineer owns the data product layer of the data lake, working with Azure and Databricks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, extend and optimise the data product layer of the Enterprise Data Lake with high code standards, tests and documentation.
• Work with the product owner and architect to understand data requirements and propose solutions.
• Troubleshoot data and software issues and optimise pipelines for performance and scalability.
• Use Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory / Synapse, keeping up to date with new features and suggesting their use.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, business or a related field.
• Minimum 4-5 years of experience as a data engineer using Azure, Databricks, Python, Azure Data Factory or Synapse.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Team player with strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Mandatory: Agile way of working with a DevOps mindset, deep knowledge of lakehouse concepts, Databricks and Unity Catalog, strong data engineering and development skills.
• Mandatory: automation and scripting with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps pipelines and Azure Data Factory.
• Nice to have: Azure Data Factory / Synapse flows and pipelines, AI-assisted code generation, Power BI, API-based metadata exchange (e.g. with Colibra), and vendor certifications such as Microsoft or Databricks.
