Chief Rolling Stock Expert (BID Position)

About the role

SYSTRA is seeking a Chief Rolling Stock Expert to lead the design, procurement and integration of high‑speed rolling stock for semi‑high speed rail bids across India. The role is pivotal in ensuring that locomotives and coaches meet performance, safety and regulatory requirements for speeds above 160 km/h.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee technical specifications, design and procurement of all rolling stock (locomotives and coaches) for 160+ km/h operation.
• Validate critical high‑speed characteristics such as aerodynamics, ride comfort, traction/braking performance and energy efficiency.
• Manage interfaces between rolling stock and other systems, especially ETCS on‑board units, power supply and track infrastructure.
• Lead the Testing & Commissioning programme, including dynamic tests, type tests and proving runs.
• Ensure compliance with international (UIC, EN) and local safety standards, regulations and RAMS requirements.
• Define long‑term maintenance strategy, depot facilities and maintenance procedures for the new fleet.
• Provide expert technical input for contract management and design revisions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in rolling stock design, procurement and testing for high‑speed rail projects.
• Deep knowledge of railway safety standards (UIC, EN) and RAMS principles.
• Proven ability to manage complex system interfaces, especially signalling (ETCS) and power systems.
• Strong background in defining maintenance strategies and depot planning for high‑speed fleets.
