Charge Nurse – Acute Surgical Ward

About the role
Join the dedicated team on Ward 7 at Borders General Hospital, an acute surgical ward with 31 beds covering General Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology. As a Charge Nurse you will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred care for patients throughout their hospital stay.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and support registered, unregistered staff and student nurses.
- Assess patient needs and coordinate complex discharges with health professionals, patients and families.
- Make confident clinical decisions without direct supervision.
- Maintain 24/7 service coverage by working flexible day and night shifts.
Required profile
- Full UK NMC registration.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Willingness to undertake required criminal records and PVG checks.

What we offer
- Band 6 role with a 36‑hour week (reduced from 37 hours from April 2026).
