CAD Designer – Brake Pipes & Hoses (Automotive)

About the role

The position focuses on the CAD design and detailing of brake pipe and hose components for passenger cars. The role involves creating 3D models and 2D drawings, managing packaging and interfaces, and supporting part releases and issue resolution in collaboration with system leads and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in CATIA, applying GD&T and drawing standards.
• Design packaging, clearances, motion envelopes and ensure assembly feasibility.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles, select appropriate materials and processes (sheet metal, cast/forged, plastics, weldments).
• Support tolerance stack‑ups, provide DFMEA inputs and ensure design robustness.
• Release parts via PLM, manage ECR/ECO and configuration control.
• Coordinate supplier CAD data exchange, conduct drawing reviews and close prototype/build issues.
• Develop 3D routing for rigid pipes and flexible hoses, ensuring bend radii, chafe clearance and heat protection.
• Design clips, brackets, grommets and protective sleeves and produce manufacturing drawings.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering (or equivalent).
• 5–10 years of hands‑on CAD design experience in automotive components or systems.
• Strong cross‑functional communication and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• CATIA V5/V6 (part design, assembly, drafting, routing).
• GD&T and tolerance stack‑up methods.
• PLM tools – Teamcenter or ENOVIA.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, casting, forging, plastics, weldments).
• DFM/DFA principles and DFMEA participation.
• Issue tracking and change management tools.
