Backend Software Engineer (Level 2)

About the role

Meltwater is seeking a Backend Software Engineer (Level 2) to join its global engineering team. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems that power our media intelligence and social analytics products.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, APIs, and services.
• Build scalable, reliable data‑processing pipelines and platform features.
• Develop secure RESTful APIs for internal and external consumption.
• Work with relational (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and QA teams to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Write clean, efficient, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
• Use Docker and containerised environments; support cloud deployments on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Troubleshoot production issues, ensure system reliability, and participate in on‑call rotations.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python or Java.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object‑oriented design.
• Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and MongoDB.
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and Docker; Kubernetes knowledge is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
• Excellent problem‑solving, debugging, and communication abilities.
