Assistant Legal Counsel

About the role

The Assistant Legal Counsel will support the bank’s legal function by drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of contracts and providing day‑to‑day legal advice to business units. This role ensures compliance with banking regulations and helps mitigate legal risks across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements, MOUs, NDAs and other legal documents.
• Provide legal advice to operations, HR, risk and compliance teams on banking laws, RBI guidelines and related regulations.
• Assist in managing litigation, arbitration and regulatory proceedings, coordinating with external counsel.
• Monitor regulatory changes, ensure compliance with banking laws and RBI directions, and advise management on implications.
• Identify legal risks in business proposals and recommend mitigation measures.
• Liaise with regulators, law firms and statutory authorities, building strong internal stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• LL.B. degree (mandatory); LL.M. preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience in a bank, NBFC, law firm or corporate legal department, preferably with exposure to banking/financial services.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of banking and financial laws (Banking Regulation Act, RBI regulations, Companies Act, Contract Act, etc.).
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a problem‑solving mindset.
