Assistant Engineer – Welding & Fabrication

About the role

The Assistant Engineer will be responsible for metal forming and welding processes, including AMF welding, sheet‑metal forming and bending. The role involves independently building manifolds, operating forming machines, and executing shift plans while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity in a high‑mix aerospace manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

• Weld tubes, air manifolds and sheet‑metal parts using TIG and orbital processes.
• Perform welding on stainless steel (SS 321) and Inconel 625 materials.
• Repair defective stainless steel and Inconel castings.
• Read and interpret drawings, manuals, SOPs and MOS to produce finished products.
• Assemble welded components and conduct marking and fixture checks.
• Apply problem‑solving tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone and RCA.
• Train other welders and maintain multiskilling across the cell.
• Ensure X‑ray quality Class B weld joints.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience in welding and fabrication.
• Diploma in a relevant technical field.
• Certification in welding processes per AWS D17.1 for 6G position with II A & III B materials.

Required skills

• TIG and orbital welding techniques.
• Metal forming and sheet‑metal bending.
• Reading technical drawings and specifications.
• Problem‑solving tools: 5 Why, Fishbone, RCA.
• Training and mentoring welders.
• X‑ray inspection of Class B welds.
• Materials expertise: stainless steel SS 321, Inconel 625.
