Airport Baggage Screener – Security Operations

About the role

The Airport Baggage Screener ensures safe and efficient screening of hold baggage, complying with aviation security regulations and detecting prohibited items or threats. This position operates advanced screening equipment, documents findings, and interacts with passengers and security staff to uphold the highest security standards.

Key responsibilities

• Attend all regulatory trainings and clear them as required.
• Operate X‑BIS equipment for image analysis to detect dangerous goods, prohibited articles, weapons, or ammunition in check‑in baggage.
• Perform physical inspections and ETD tests on baggage flagged during X‑ray screening.
• Maintain high Threat Image Projection (TIP) scores to demonstrate strong image interpretation capabilities.
• Follow BCAS and DGCA guidelines to ensure strict compliance during baggage handling and inspection.
• Record and document all findings to meet audit and inspection requirements.
• Conduct routine pre‑operational checks of X‑BIS, ETD, CT‑EDS and other security equipment.
• Report equipment malfunctions or downtime and assist in maintaining operational registers.
• Collaborate with CISF and airline staff during physical inspections or resolution of suspicious items.
• Provide timely updates to supervisors on ongoing operations or issues.

• Ability to attend and successfully complete mandatory regulatory training.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate threat detection and documentation.
• Capability to work collaboratively with security personnel, airline staff, and supervisory teams.
• Effective time‑management skills to ensure efficient baggage screening.

Required skills

• Operation of X‑BIS screening equipment.
• Conducting ETD (Explosive Trace Detection) tests.
• Use of CT‑EDS security equipment.
• Threat Image Projection (TIP) analysis.
• Knowledge of BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) guidelines.
• Knowledge of DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) regulations.
