Transportation Planner

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Planner to support transportation planning, mobility studies, land‑use assessments, and infrastructure development projects. The role involves analyzing transportation systems, supporting regional planning initiatives, conducting research, and providing recommendations to improve networks and community development outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.
• Review and process comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.
• Conduct research and prepare statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.
• Provide professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land‑use and transportation projects.
• Develop plans, studies and analyses on a regional basis.
• Work in regional program areas such as natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation and coastal zone management.
• Perform field inspections to gather data and verify compliance with approved plans.
• Conduct meetings and present reports to staff, advisory boards and elected officials.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related field.
• 3–8 years of experience in transportation planning, mobility planning, traffic studies or infrastructure planning.
• Strong understanding of transportation systems, land‑use planning and regional development principles.
• Experience working on government, municipal or large‑scale infrastructure projects.

Required skills

• Experience with transportation modeling software such as VISUM, TransCAD, Cube or EMME.
• Knowledge of sustainable transportation, public transit planning, active transportation and smart mobility solutions.
