Training & Assessment Manager (Electrical & Crew)

About the role

The Training & Assessment Manager (Electrical & Crew) leads the development of competent Assistant Electrical Officers, Electrical Officers and Deck & Engine crew for a major Indian shipping company. Reporting to the Head of Training & Assessment, the role oversees recruitment, technical training, competency assessment, career progression and compliance with statutory and company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Marine Electrical Workshop, automation and ME‑Engine training in line with the company’s Training Matrix.
• Evaluate TAR, DLP and Skill‑Up submissions, conduct competency assessments and promotion interviews for TEO‑to‑AEO and AEO‑to‑EO progression.
• Mentor AEOs, EOs and ratings through on‑board practical training and TNI‑based guidance.
• Assist in designing, reviewing and updating training programmes, Skill‑Up tools, competency assessment instruments and question banks to meet DNV‑ST‑0029 and international standards.
• Manage LMS, CBT modules, digital content, portals and dashboards; evaluate training effectiveness and implement corrective actions.
• Oversee selection, induction and onboarding of TEOs and trainee GP ratings, monitor training progress and prepare competency reports.
• Support annual budget planning, expenditure monitoring, vendor contracts and training infrastructure enhancements.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years sailing experience as an Electrical Officer, preferably on tankers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Familiarity with MAN B&W ME‑B / ME‑C engine automation systems (preferred).
