Technology and Patent Analyst

About the role

The Technology and Patent Analyst will support Avery Dennison’s innovation pipeline by delivering actionable intellectual‑property intelligence. You will conduct deep competitive patent research, translate findings into business insights, and help shape technology strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough competitive patent and non‑patent literature research, including state‑of‑the‑art and landscape analysis.
• Perform rigorous technical investigations within specialized technology fields to generate actionable IP intelligence.
• Analyze competitive patent and non‑patent literature to provide insight into product/technology landscapes.
• Execute patent portfolio analysis, SWOT assessments, and industry benchmarking.
• Generate innovation and strategy insights through patent research on industry IP holdings.
• Publish periodic insight reports for the business and R&D community.
• Prepare IP/Patent due‑diligence studies for specific business scenarios.

Required profile

• Ability to interpret IP signals in the right business context.
• Strong research and analytical skills with a focus on “so‑what” synthesis.
• Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
• Understanding of drivers of digital technologies and business strategies.
• Desirable: strong grasp of competitive advantages and business strategy.

• Proficiency in data visualization for clear articulation of insights.
