Staff Software Engineer, Demand Bidder, Ad Serving Platform

About the role

Roku is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own and evolve the Demand Bidder component of its real‑time ad serving platform. You will work on a high‑throughput, low‑latency system that decides which ads to serve millions of times per second, directly influencing revenue.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of a large‑scale, real‑time distributed decisioning system with strict latency requirements.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of subsystems, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, on‑call support, and long‑term evolution.
• Scale the platform to accommodate new business lines, integrating advanced pacing, scoring, and machine‑learning engines.
• Collaborate with product, data, and infrastructure teams to ensure reliability, performance, and measurable impact.
• Leverage AI‑driven tools and agentic frameworks to accelerate development and automation.

Required profile

• Proven experience building high‑throughput, low‑latency services in a distributed environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to quickly master complex ecosystems.
• Track record of taking ownership of large‑scale systems from design through production.
• Curiosity and adaptability to work with emerging AI and automation technologies.
