Staff Data Architect

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of our enterprise data lakehouse. The role will define standards, governance, and strategy for turning data into a strategic asset across Cohere Health’s AI‑driven healthcare platform.

Key responsibilities

• Set technical standards and reference architecture for a universal semantic layer across multiple data products.
• Define, scale, and govern the global Enterprise Ontology that underpins AI systems.
• Prototype AI‑native data schemas using tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot.
• Embed HIPAA, FHIR, and security requirements into platform design and collaborate with compliance teams.
• Partner with executive leadership, product management, and engineering to translate business needs into scalable solutions.
• Lead information security activities, implement security policies, and support audit readiness.

Required profile

• 12+ years of data engineering experience, previously in Staff, Principal, or Architect roles.
• Proven ability to code in Python and SQL and deliver rapid proof‑of‑concepts for complex data architectures.
• Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical concepts to C‑suite and business stakeholders.
• Experience in the US healthcare domain, including familiarity with FHIR, HL7, and HIPAA compliance.
