Specialist Software Engineer - Lab Informatics

About the role

Amgen is looking for a Specialist Software Engineer to support the design, development and software implementation of the Holistic Lab Product Teams, which aim to accelerate product development and commercial manufacturing. The engineer develops and maintains software applications, works with software engineers on design and development, runs code reviews and ensures high-quality delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement IS solutions that digitize lab experimentation, simulations and electronic recipe management across Operations.
• Work with business users to analyze needs, identify technology solutions and document designs following Agile best practices.
• Collaborate with IS Architects and System Owners on an integrated solution across PLM, ERP, MES and the Enterprise Data Lake.
• Build technology solutions, including configuring commercial software and creating extensions and integrations.
• Serve as lead Solution Engineer, overseeing external contractors and consultants.
• Review project deliverables for quality and traceability to requirements, take part in IS quality validation reviews, and oversee the backlog of requirements and user stories.
• Test and deploy applications, revise, refactor and debug code, write documentation throughout the SDLC, and act as an application expert providing technical support.

Required profile

• Doctorate, Master's or Bachelor's degree and 8 to 13 years of experience in Computer Science/IT or a related field.
• Experience designing, configuring and coding software, including custom development and commercial packages using APIs.
• Agile environment experience and contribution to ceremonies.
• Experience integrating solutions with ERP and MES platforms, and with lab informatics platforms such as Biovia, Benchling and Revvity (preferred).
• Experience with DevOps CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with architecture styles and APIs (REST, RPC) preferred.

Required skills

• Integration standards: Web Services, SOAP, REST.
• Object-oriented design and semantic web standards.
• Languages: Java, Python, Pipeline Pilot, C# (a plus).
• Databases: SQL RDBMS and SPARQL; big data integration and analytics a plus.
• Design patterns, data structures, test-driven development.
• Computer system validation and SDLC in biotech manufacturing and laboratory areas.
