Senior Wayside & Onboard Service Engineer – CBTC

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a self‑motivated Senior Wayside & Onboard Service Engineer to support CBTC (Communications‑Based Train Control) subsystems for metro projects. Based in Kolkata, you will ensure the reliability, safety and efficiency of wayside and onboard equipment, providing 24 × 7 support under annual maintenance contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Execute on‑site maintenance activities in line with contractual KPIs.
• Perform high‑level hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Escalate unresolved issues to design, OEM or vendor teams with detailed technical reports.
• Collaborate with overseas CBTC design teams for root‑cause analysis and critical issue resolution.
• Download and analyse ZC, FrontAM and CC logs, apply software updates and verify system configuration.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, fault logs and system update documentation.
• Observe metro safety procedures, work permits and perform safety checks after each intervention.
• Provide shift and emergency support as required.

Required profile

• Strong technical background in CBTC systems and metro operations.
• Attention to detail, problem‑solving ability and capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to travel between project sites and work 24 × 7 support rotations.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting and coordination with internal and external teams.
