Senior Staff Backend Engineer (K8)

About the role

As a Senior Staff Backend Engineer you will partner with leaders of multiple platform teams to design and implement scalable, reliable infrastructure solutions. Working closely with product teams, you will guide full‑stack development using Java, AWS, Kafka, Kubernetes and related technologies, while mentoring engineers and driving operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Architect workload and service management infrastructure and develop critical components.
• Decompose complex problems into simple solutions and enable teams to prioritize with urgency.
• Define roadmaps for scalable growth of Coupang’s application infrastructure.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers on critical projects and resolve complex business problems.
• Investigate system issues, address root causes and raise the bar on operational excellence.

Required profile

• 12+ years of professional software development experience.
• Recent hands‑on experience designing large‑scale distributed systems.
• Fluent in one or more of Java, Go, or Python.
• Proven track record delivering mission‑critical systems.
• Experience leading senior individual contributors globally.
