Senior Manager, Data Architecture

About the role

Amgen is looking for a Senior Manager, Data Architecture to lead the design, development and implementation of its data architecture strategy so that data remains accessible, reliable and secure for business operations, analytics and AI solutions. The role manages and guides a team of data architects and sets architectural standards across the enterprise.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the data architecture strategy and roadmap, aligned with business and IT goals
• Lead a team of data architects, providing mentorship, technical guidance and career development
• Work with data science, data engineering and analytics teams to understand their data needs and recommend architectures
• Design data flows from creation through to consumption, document them visually and present them to executives, including cost estimates, timelines and value propositions
• Build scalable, high-performance, secure architectures supporting analytics, AI/ML and operational workflows
• Establish enterprise data modeling standards for structured, semi-structured and unstructured data
• Partner with Data Strategy & Governance and Engineering teams on metadata management, data lineage and data governance policies
• Collaborate with information security and data stewards on data security, privacy controls and access management
• Maintain documentation of data architecture, processes and policies, and explain complex data concepts to non-technical audiences

Required profile

• Basic qualifications: doctorate with 2 years of Information Systems experience, or master's with 8-10 years, or bachelor's with 10-14 years, or diploma with 14-18 years of Information Systems experience
• 4 years of direct managerial experience managing people and leading teams, projects or programs
• Relevant experience in pharma
• 5+ years designing and implementing data architectures and data engineering
• Proven leadership of data architecture teams and expertise in data modeling, database design and cloud platforms

• Data modeling, database design and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Big data technologies and modern ETL/ELT frameworks
• Data governance, data security and compliance
• Preferred: cloud certifications, machine learning/AI architectures, DevOps, CI/CD, Terraform, CloudFormation, agile (SAFe)
