Senior Data/Platform Engineer II

About the role

Join Elsevier Health’s Data Engineering team to build the infrastructure that powers a semantic data platform for global health research. As a Senior Data/Platform Engineer II you will design, develop, and maintain large‑scale data pipelines and microservices that enable reliable, high‑performance data products across the Elsevier ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable data processing workflows and microservices using Spark, Kafka Streams, and Kubernetes.
• Write modular, testable Scala code following functional programming and software engineering best practices.
• Lead the development of system components across multiple services and troubleshoot complex issues in distributed data systems.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and other engineering activities to ensure high‑quality solutions.
• Develop and maintain robust data models that support analytical and operational business requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable engineering solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers through onboarding, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
• Drive continuous improvement by promoting engineering best practices and team collaboration.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and operating large‑scale data pipelines and distributed systems.
• Strong background in functional programming, particularly Scala.
• Ability to lead technical discussions and mentor less‑experienced team members.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
