Senior Avionics Software Developer

About the role

Airbus is seeking a Senior Avionics Software Developer to lead the design and implementation of safety‑critical real‑time embedded software for avionics applications. The role involves full‑lifecycle development, from high‑level requirements to certification, using DO‑178C standards.

Key responsibilities

• Spearhead requirement engineering: gather, analyse and document software requirements.
• Understand and evolve the global software architecture (static and dynamic).
• Create high‑level and low‑level designs using HOOD, class definitions and UML diagrams.
• Perform coding, debugging and build generation efficiently.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and verification teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Troubleshoot issues identified during system testing.
• Mentor junior team members and foster competency development.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers, partners and peers.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in the full software lifecycle within the avionics domain.
• Hands‑on expertise in embedded software requirements engineering and architecture.
• Proven ability to design and develop algorithms, interfaces, schedulers, abstraction layers and modular components.
• Experience working with global, multi‑site teams and handling complex technical challenges.
• Familiarity with standards for requirements, design and coding.
• Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.

Required skills

• Embedded programming in C, C++ and ADA.
• Real‑time operating systems (RTOS) and A653‑compliant RTOS.
• DO‑178C certification standards.
• Requirements engineering and software architecture (static & dynamic).
• UML and HOOD modelling.
• Unit testing, configuration management and change management.
• Algorithm development, interface design, scheduler implementation, abstraction and modularisation.
