Secondary Design Engineer - Power Quality Solutions

About the role

Hitachi Energy’s Power Quality Solutions (PQS) Electrical Engineering team delivers full‑cycle project engineering, from hardware control and protection system design to auxiliary AC/DC system layout, MV/LV switchboards, battery systems, junction boxes and LV cable sizing. The Secondary Design Engineer will lead the design and execution of secondary substation solutions that meet global standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and lead multiple complex projects, ensuring quality, on‑time delivery, efficiency and budget compliance.
• Design and execute projects according to customer specifications, FACTS standards and international standards such as IEC, ANSI and IEEE.
• Review and approve scope, budget and schedule, guaranteeing high‑quality deliverables.
• Perform risk and opportunity assessments and implement corrective actions.
• Create detailed work plans and cost estimates for assigned activities.
• Provide cost‑effective, high‑quality solutions while staying within contract limits.
• Maintain safety standards and mitigate potential risks on site.
• Interact with customers, officials, contractors and internal teams.
• Participate in project meetings and present engineering aspects of assignments.
• Ensure compliance with all external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 10–14 years of experience in substation secondary/EPC design, project execution or HVDC control & protection hardware design.
• Self‑starter with strong attention to detail.
• Proven experience in control and protection cubicle design.
• Background in secondary engineering and EPC execution.
• Experience in the electrical grid industry, especially switchyard equipment.
• Hands‑on experience with substation/FACTS projects.
• Proficiency with E3 design tool or similar software.
• Knowledge of cable engineering and LV cable sizing.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
