Scientific Editor – Joule (Energy Research)

About the role

We are seeking a Scientific Editor to join the Joule editorial team in India. The role involves managing research submissions, commissioning influential content, and shaping the scientific direction of a leading energy‑research journal.

Key responsibilities

• Handle manuscripts through the editorial and peer‑review process, rigorously evaluate submissions against Joule’s standards, and make well‑reasoned editorial decisions.
• Attract high‑quality research articles and commission reviews, perspectives, commentaries, and other editorial content from leading experts.
• Travel to international conferences, workshops, and research institutions to engage with scientists, identify emerging research directions, and promote the journal.
• Collaborate with editorial teams across Cell Press to identify suitable manuscripts for transfer and strengthen the representation of energy research across the portfolio.
• Contribute to broader editorial and strategic projects within Cell Press.

Required profile

• PhD in a field relevant to Joule’s scope, preferably chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Prior editorial experience preferred; exceptional early‑career candidates with a strong research background will also be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and critically across a broad range of scientific and technical topics.
• Strong existing networks within the global energy research community and the ability to engage researchers at all career stages.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
