Scientific Editor – Energy Research

About the role

We are looking for a Scientific Editor to join the Joule editorial team in India. Reporting to the Editor‑in‑Chief, you will shape the scientific direction of Joule, a leading journal for transformative energy research.

Key responsibilities

• Manage manuscripts through editorial and peer‑review, evaluate scientific quality, originality and significance, and make editorial decisions.
• Attract high‑quality research articles and commission reviews, perspectives, commentaries and other content from leading experts.
• Travel to international conferences, workshops and research institutions to engage scientists, identify emerging research directions and promote the journal.
• Collaborate with Cell Press editorial teams to align journal scope, transfer suitable manuscripts and strengthen the energy research portfolio.
• Contribute to broader editorial and strategic projects across Cell Press.

Required profile

• PhD in a field relevant to energy research, preferably chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Expertise in catalysis, battery technology or photovoltaics is strongly encouraged.
• Prior editorial experience preferred; outstanding early‑career researchers with strong publication records will also be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to think conceptually and critically across a broad range of scientific topics.
• Extensive networks within the global energy research community and excellent communication skills in English.
