Interim Associate or Senior Editor (Cell Biology & Development)

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an interim Associate or Senior Editor for the Cell Biology and Development area of Nature Communications. The role is hybrid, based in Pune with occasional work in Shanghai or Beijing, and supports the journal’s mission to publish high‑quality, open‑access research.

Key responsibilities

• Handle original research papers, overseeing manuscript selection and peer‑review processes.
• Make well‑reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
• Determine the representation of cell and developmental biology topics within the journal.
• Liaise with editors across the Nature family and with international scientific experts.
• Attend conferences and visit research institutions to stay connected with the community.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in Cell Biology or Developmental Biology.
• Strong understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
• Passion for science and a broad interest in research beyond one’s specialty.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Ability to assess novelty, context, and implications of submitted research.
• Eagerness to travel and engage with scientists worldwide.
• Editorial experience is not required.
