School Cleaning Helper

About the role

The School Cleaning Helper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic learning environment for students and staff. The role involves daily cleaning tasks, restroom upkeep, surface disinfection, and occasional deep‑cleaning projects within the school premises.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors; dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, windowsills, and fixtures.
• Empty and sanitize waste bins, replace liners, and restock cleaning supplies.
• Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and restroom fixtures; replenish toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
• Sanitize high‑touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and handrails regularly.
• Perform scheduled deep‑cleaning tasks, including carpet cleaning, window washing, and floor stripping/waxing.
• Use cleaning equipment safely, report malfunctions, and monitor supply levels.
• Follow health and safety procedures for handling chemicals and wear appropriate PPE.
• Report maintenance issues promptly and collaborate with school staff.

Required profile

• No formal education required; basic literacy and numeracy are helpful.
• Previous experience in cleaning or janitorial work, preferably in a school or childcare setting.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with other staff members.

Required skills

• Operating vacuums, floor scrubbers, mops, and other cleaning tools.
• Safe handling and application of cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of proper surface disinfection techniques.
