Safety, Health & Environment Specialist

About the role

AECOM is looking for an experienced Safety, Health & Environment (SHE/HSE) Specialist to support marine and port construction projects in Pipavav. The role will work closely with the Resident Engineer and Construction Manager to ensure compliance with HSE regulations, client specifications, and maritime safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures and management plans for marine and coastal projects.
• Identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations, environmental permits, and EIA requirements.
• Monitor environmental impacts of dredging, reclamation, and port operations, implementing water‑quality, sediment‑control and waste‑management measures.
• Oversee safe execution of marine construction activities such as quay walls, jetties, breakwaters and offshore works.
• Review marine traffic management plans, lifesaving equipment, and emergency rescue systems.
• Conduct routine HSE inspections, audits and compliance assessments across construction sites and contractor operations.
• Manage contractor and subcontractor HSE performance, ensuring proper use of PPE and safe work practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Marine Engineering or related discipline.
• 10‑18 years of HSE experience with significant exposure to ports, marine, harbor, coastal, dredging or maritime infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of marine construction activities, maritime safety requirements and environmental management practices.
• Preferred certifications: NEBOSH IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, CSP or equivalent.
