Purchasing Manager – Vendor Development

About the role

Norquest Brands, a manufacturer of bags and packaging in Ahmedabad, is looking for a Purchasing Manager to lead the procurement of all materials required for its own brands and for consumer‑brand contracts. The role is based on the factory floor and involves managing the full purchase cycle from planning to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse production plans to determine material requirements, quantities and timelines.
• Identify and evaluate vendors, obtain quotations, and negotiate price, MOQ, delivery terms and payment conditions.
• Create purchase orders and dispatch them to selected suppliers.
• Track daily order status, follow up with vendors, and proactively flag potential delays.
• Receive incoming material, verify against samples and purchase orders, record goods receipt notes, and handle returns or claims.
• Issue approved material to the shop floor, maintain store cleanliness, accurate stock levels and waste control.
• Continuously source new suppliers through market visits, trade fairs and vendor assessments, adding fresh options each quarter.
• Maintain vendor rate history, vendor master list and simple reports on pending orders, delays and cost‑saving opportunities.

Required profile

• 2–6 years of purchasing experience in a factory environment (bags, garments, textiles, packaging or consumer goods).
• Familiarity with fabrics, trims, hardware and packaging materials or ability to learn quickly.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to assess fair pricing.
• Comfortable working on the production floor and in the store, not only at a desk.
• Basic knowledge of import procedures (e.g., China buying, customs paperwork, landed cost) is a plus.
