Principal Engineer – AI/ML (Speech, Voice & GenAI Architecture)

About the role

Stryker is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction of its AI‑powered voice and speech platform. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and AI teams to deliver real‑time speech recognition, transcription, translation, and conversational AI solutions for healthcare.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture design for AI‑driven voice and speech applications, ensuring scalability and low latency.
• Evaluate, select, and integrate AI models for speech recognition, transcription, translation, summarization, and conversational AI.
• Design and build backend services using Java and Python, leveraging Azure AI services such as Azure Voice Live API, Speech Services, and Azure OpenAI.
• Develop real‑time speech processing pipelines and micro‑services on Azure, focusing on performance, cost optimization, and reliability.
• Mentor engineers, promote best practices, and guide teams through implementation decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 14+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend development in Java.
• Proficiency in Python for AI/ML integration and experimentation.
• Experience building cloud‑based applications on Microsoft Azure or similar platforms.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
