Principal Data Engineer – Data Products

About the role

KONE’s IT Enterprise Data & Analytics team in Pune is looking for a Principal Data Engineer to lead the design, development and industrialisation of data pipelines that power scalable analytics, AI and digital use cases across the organisation. You will act as the technical go‑to‑person for data product teams, driving best practices and innovation at an enterprise scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and optimise end‑to‑end data pipelines using cloud technologies such as Databricks, AWS Glue, EMR and Airflow.
• Ensure reusability and maintainability of data products by applying industry‑standard design patterns and conducting code reviews.
• Plan production deployment, monitor performance, troubleshoot incidents and manage technical debt.
• Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing training, guidance and fostering DataOps maturity.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical specifications and advise on data engineering strategy.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related quantitative field.
• 18‑20 years of hands‑on experience in data engineering and software development.
• Proven track record of delivering industrial‑grade, reusable data products on cloud platforms.
• Strong communication, coaching and people‑management skills.
