Ocean Freight Operations Expert

About the role

We are looking for an Ocean Freight Operations Expert to lead end‑to‑end ocean freight shipment execution in our Chennai office. The role serves as the primary contact for customers, ensuring shipments are delivered efficiently, compliantly and in line with service commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end shipment execution, including booking, documentation, transportation coordination and delivery.
• Provide proactive shipment updates and act as the main point of contact for customers regarding status, exceptions, complaints and claims.
• Support routing and operational decisions that balance customer requirements with profitability, and monitor shipment‑level gross profit.
• Ensure compliance with customs, trade regulations and shipment‑specific requirements, and mitigate operational risks.
• Collaborate with carriers, vendors and internal teams, monitor supplier performance and drive effective communication.
• Analyze recurring operational issues, recommend process improvements and participate in Lean, GEMBA and other continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Share knowledge with less experienced team members and support training and onboarding activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Freight Forwarding, International Trade or a related field.
• Proven experience in managing ocean freight shipments, including booking, documentation and customs compliance.
• Strong customer‑facing abilities with a focus on issue resolution and relationship building.
• Analytical mindset to monitor profitability and support invoice dispute resolution.
• Familiarity with Lean, GEMBA or other continuous‑improvement methodologies.
