Non‑Commissioned Detention Officer

About the role

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Non‑Commissioned Detention Officer to join its Jail Division. This position is responsible for the safe care and custody of inmates, ensuring security within the facility while supporting the overall mission of the sheriff’s office.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of the jail environment.
• Supervise inmate activities, including booking, releases, meals, visitation, and headcounts.
• Conduct searches, inspections, and enforce facility rules.
• Monitor for contraband, suicide attempts, and escape attempts.
• Resolve inmate disputes and respond to emergency situations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED; minimum age 18.
• U.S. citizen and resident of the contiguous United States.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with liability insurance and no more than three moving violations in the past three years.
• Clean employment and criminal background (no convictions above a Class B misdemeanor in the last ten years).
• Eligibility for Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) licensing.
• Ability to complete a 96‑hour Jailer Certification course within one year of hire.
• Physical ability to stand, kneel, bend, walk for long periods and restrain inmates when necessary.

Required skills
