Network Development Manager, Capacity Restoration Team

About the role

The Network Development Manager will lead the Capacity Restoration Team within AWS Infrastructure Services. This team designs, builds, and operates tooling and automation that restores network capacity across AWS’s global backbone and border networks, ensuring customers receive reliable, high‑performance cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of Network Development Engineers focused on capacity restoration tooling, automation, and network engineering solutions.
• Hire, develop, coach, and promote engineers to build a high‑performing, sustainable team.
• Strategically assign projects to grow engineer skillsets and align with organizational goals.
• Define the vision, tenets, and strategic roadmap for the team and represent it to senior leadership.
• Write narratives (PR/FAQ, six‑pager) for senior leaders and contribute to OP1/OP2 planning.
• Identify architectural gaps, drive resolution of capacity restoration deficiencies, and simplify processes.
• Drive engineering efforts to solve complex backbone and border network capacity problems at the architectural level.
• Establish audit mechanisms, metrics, and on‑call rotations that meet SLAs without engineer burnout.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading network engineering teams and delivering large‑scale capacity solutions.
• Strong ability to hire, develop, and coach engineers, fostering a culture of operational excellence.
• Data‑driven decision‑making mindset with focus on continuous improvement.
• Capability to communicate technical vision to senior leadership and write clear, concise narratives.
