Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Global Engineering Center in Vadodara. You will contribute to the design and development of oil‑filled distribution transformers up to 4 MVA, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Generate active part, winding, tank and external designs within factory limits and IEEE/IEC/IS guidelines.
• Prepare customer documentation, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material according to project schedules.
• Perform mechanical calculations, thermal, dielectric, short‑circuit and acoustic analyses for transformer designs.
• Coordinate design activities across a worldwide factory network and participate in internal design reviews.
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations, procedures, and Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity values.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2–8 years of mechanical design experience in oil‑filled transformer manufacturing.
• Knowledge of transformer mechanics, clearances/creepage, basic layout, and cleat lead arrangement.
• Familiarity with IS, IEC, IEEE and Canadian standards.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.

Required skills

• CAD software and 3D modelling tools (Creo preferred).
• Mechanical design and calculations for transformers.
• Dielectric and thermal analysis.
• Understanding of IEEE/IEC/IS and Canadian standards.
• Winding, tank and external design experience (advantageous).
• Simulation tools or software development experience (advantageous).
• Microsoft Office proficiency.
